before your next MOT

We provide all customers with an MOT that can be done whilst you wait in our viewing/waiting area or you can drop your car off and pick it up later. It is our intention to always keep you informed on your vehicle at all times. If your vehicle happens to fail the MOT, we will offer our customers free help and advice on how to go about fixing any issues that may arise.

We will provide free quotations for the work required and will even provide a free MOT re-test, if you bring your vehicle back to us within ten working days.

We can offer a pre-test check to look for any obvious fails prior to actually doing the MOT test for real. This could help keep costs down, because if a vehicle fails the test, then it will need to be repaired and then re-tested, usually incurring an additional fee. You can get your MOT test done whenever you like but it is usually done within a month of the previous test running out, as the date of the next test can be extended by up to this time period.

MOT stands for Ministry of Transport, the government department who introduced the MOT test in 1960. The MOT test is a standard check on road vehicles, to try to ensure that they conform to a minimum safety standard. Most cars, vans and motorbikes are exempt from needing an MOT test for their first three years, but after that vehicles will need to be tested each year and hold a valid MOT certificate, which is a form called the VT20.

It is illegal to drive on a public road in the UK without the vehicle having an MOT certificate, unless you are on your way to the garage to be tested or to have necessary work done prior to this.

The MOT is a series of standard checks that will be carried out by a mechanic. Only registered MOT test centres can issue the necessary certificates. Exact details of what is tested vary according to the type of vehicle, with motorbikes and mopeds being called class 1 and 2 vehicles (depending on their power), whilst normal cars are class 4.

For a car, the tests include checking that the lights, seat belts, steering, brakes and tyres all conform to specific standards. Checks are also now made on exhaust emissions, in line with the aim for cars not to contribute too highly to pollution.

Local School Rebate Scheme

Do you have children at a local school? If so Mann Motors has set up a rebate scheme with many of the local schools to help raise extra funds for new equipment.

This rebate is exclusive to Mann Motors customers only. From every MOT charged at £40.00, £5.00 is donated towards the school. We are really pleased with the popularity of the rebate scheme for schools we are running and in only a short period of time we have raised over £100 for the schools of Leighton Buzzard.

The scheme will be running permanently, so if you have friends or family with children at a local school, please spread the word so that we can keep raising money for local school children.
